It was a pretty gloomy day, and outside there was rain pouring down. As they always say; when it rains, it pours. Many people entered Starbucks with their umbrellas intact, but no sign of a rain coat. Rain is California was sort of random, like it came out of the blue without any warnings. At least the heat was on high, and the fireplace was on. Of course, hot chocolates, teas, and coffees warmed everyone up as well. It wasn’t a sunny and rainy day; it was a cold, windy, and rainy day. Weather forecasters said there might be a chance of a thunderstorm, though it was highly unlikely.
Aaron was busy making drinks as usual, and there was a usual long line for this time of day. Perhaps it was just that most people wanted a warm drink to warm themselves up though. Drink after drink he put whip cream on almost all the drinks (except the teas,) and a lid over it. He rarely worked the cash register, though he knew how to work it. Soon after he finished a drink he would call a name and the person would come to grab their drink. Aaron didn’t have a break anytime soon, especially with a line like this.
Aaron wore a black shirt, though he could wear a white one if her preferred. Some Starbucks had employees wear white, but this particular store chose black. He wore black corduroy pants, belted at the waist. He didn’t mind the outfit, as it was just a basic thing. Wrapped around her waist, covering his belt, was the green apron with the logo on it.

The day was gloomy, not a typical California day. These days always reminded her of home. She looked out the window once more before she packed her Mac book pro in her bag, she slipped on her pair of black Uggs, and tucked in her favorite pair of Yoga pants. She was wearing a Black and white stripped V-neck, and over that was a black and white checkered pea coat. She grabbed her umbrella and left her apartment, heading for the local Starbucks.
She walked trying to avoid all the puddles, even though they were every where. It was a bit cold, but nothing she couldn't handle. As she approached the Starbucks, she saw that it was busy. She sighed and groaned a bit, all she needed to do was write a paper, and then a e-mail to her mom. She walked in and shook her umbrella, putting it in her bag. She sighed and ruffled her hair, not like it mattered, her hair was natural and wavy. She peaked up seeing there was only one Barista working.
Finally, it was her turn. She kept her eyes on the menu, looking at what she wanted. Finally she made up her mind. "Can I get a..." she stood there shocked, as her eyes were looking at the man that broke her heart only a week ago. A knot entered her stomach, and she was becoming angry. "Mocha." she completed her order, a stern look on her face as she grabbed her wallet. He was definitely not getting a tip.

A familiar voice shook Aaron. “Mocha it is,” Aaron tried to say in a semi-cheery way. After all, she was a customer, so he had to be kind. Right away he got to work on making her mocha, so he would have as little time as possible to talk to her.
The mochas were easy to make as it consisted of mostly coffee, and then chocolate. Aaron poured the coffee into the traditional Starbucks cup and then added a lot of table spoons of chocolate syrup. He mixed it around with a spoon, until the two flavors mixed. Next Aaron grabbed the whip cream canister and put the signature swirl of it on top, and then chocolate curls and sauce to decorate the top. He popped on a clear lid and handed her a straw. ”Have a nice day,” his voice quivered. He knew she wouldn’t have a nice day, since he sort of ruined it by being in it. He thanked himself for not having a break, but the line was slowing down, so she could easily say a negative comment to him if she pleased.

Maddee waited as he made her mocha. Maddee wanted to die. Why him? Why? Couldn't it have been someone else? She handed him a 20 and waited for her change. When he said have a nice day Maddee wanted to pounce on him. She wanted to throw the burning hot coffee in his face. There wasn't anyone behind her, but she didn't want to be the bitch in the situation. "Like that will happen." she had a bitter tone in her voice. She grabbed her mocha and walked over to a table. She picked one by the front door and a perfect view for him to look at her. Maybe if he had to look at her, he would somewhat feel guilty.
She took out her Mac and turned it on, she sipped on her mocha and looked at him through her peripheral vision. She was still mad, and she knew this was awkward. A part of her wanted him to come and say something, but she knew he more than likely wouldn't. She typed in her password and clicked on the internet, she browsed around and read GG, glancing at him periodically.

Maddee didn’t seem too thrilled to see him, though it was likewise. He wanted to say something, like he to say he wished it didn’t end that way and such. He took the twenty from her, but she walked away before he could give her, her change. She had given eighteen dollars and twenty five cents extra to Starbucks, which he was sure of was not suppose to be a tip. Crap, he had to deliver it himself. If Aaron had a fellow employee deliver it, it would make him seem weak, so he had to do it himself.
Aaron opened the cash register and placed the twenty in neatly, before taking eighteen dollars and a quarter out. He rubbed his face, and as he peeked through his fingers he saw her watching him. Like a hawk. Aaron took a deep breath as he opened part of the counter, which worked sort of like a door. Now he was in the position of a customer, where he had a clear view of the menu, and if he turned around he had a perfect view of Madison.
Aaron walked to her, the money squished in his sweaty hand, as he grew nearer. ”You forgot your change,” he said dryly as he placed the money on the table. He was going to say more, but it would cause more drama and such, not something he wanted.

Maddee looked as he walked up to her table. She kept calm and saw him place it on the table. Boys were so complicated, part of her wanted to punch him, but the other part wanted to take him in her arms and kiss him. Love was such a war. She saw him walking away and looked at her computer "That's all you're going to say?" she looked down a bit and bit her lip, she always did when she was nervous. She didn't know why she sad that to him, what was left to say? He left her brokenhearted without a care in the world, only thinking of the other girl. She kept her gaze on her computer as she waited for him to speak.

Aaron froze, as if he turned invisible. Slowly he turned around and faced her and stuffed her hands into his corduroy pant pockets. ”There isn’t much to say,” he murmured. Well, there wasn’t. He tried to let her down easy, but it didn’t really work out well, and then she freaked. Aaron couldn’t even bare to make direct eye contact with her, it was like, scary. Instead, he looked down at his vans sneakers, and how one shoe’s lace was untied. He bent down and tied it, putting the bunny through the rabbit hole and such. When Aaron finished he slowly stood back up, and put his hands back in her pockets. This would really be a good time to run away from his fears.

Maddee sighed as he spoke, and shook her head, placing her face in her palms. "I guess you're right." she mumbled. She rubbed on her eyes and looked over at him, he couldn't even make eye contact with her. She cleared her throat. "How's it going with that one girl?" she asked, always forgetting her name. Not like she really cared to know, she was just curious, which was apparently a 'flaw' of hers, according to Aaron. She took a sip of her mocha trying not to make things awkward.

He couldn’t believe she was asking about Roxi. ”Uh, good.” Aaron stated. He didn’t need to say much more about anything. He really just wanted to finish his shift and leave. It was so awkward running into her and such, though he should have seen it coming. After all, Los Angeles is a large city, but it’s a small world all together. ”Look. I’m really sorry about how things ended,” he said. It wasn’t a lie either, he really, truly, was sorry. ”It didn’t mean to end that way,” he sighed. Why was life so difficult? Now he had an even bigger problem than running into Maddee. It was Gossip Girl. On her little blog she would make it seem like they were falling in love or some fib. The worst part of it, was that some people believe what she writes.

Maddee rolled her eyes a bit when he spoke. "Yeah, yeah, yeah." she cocked her head a bit and looked at him "You don't really have to say anything, honestly. You don't have to be sorry." she looked at her computer and looked on her Facebook. "Like you said, i'm immature and too curious, you picked the right choice. That girl seems great. Mature, not annoying, so i'm happy for you." she had a bit of sarcasm and hostileness in her tone of voice. She was getting more mad as he spoke. Like he was actually sorry.

”Look, don’t believe me if you don’t want to, but I am sorry. Sincerely sorry ,” he said, pressing his hands on the hand on the table and looking her directly in the eye. ”You asked me to point out your flaws if I may point out,” he said a bit aggravated. She was putting all the blame on him, which most of it was his fault, but come on. They were both mad at each other. Maddee was mad because he didn’t chose her, and he was mad because she blamed everything on him and made a bigger deal of it than it really was. It could have been a lets-be-friends thing, but no.

Maddee shrugged "You're right." she didn't want to say anything else, but of course she opened her big mouth. "You said you picked me." her voice quivered and she spoke softly, almost to quiet for him to hear, she played with her cup lid a bit. That's what pissed her off the most, earlier at dinner he said he picked her, but then he just left her. Guy's are so hard to comprehend, she hated it.

”Uh yeah, I sort of forgot I said said,” he muttered, while he messed with his hair. He completely forgot that he said that, but then he got a vibe that she wasn’t the right girl after he said that. ”I just-“ he started, but he couldn’t finish. Well, he didn’t really know how to finish. I changed my mind? She would never believe it. Simply, he would leave it at that and not finish the sentence, though she would probably ask him to finish in a demanding voice. He really hated to be put in awkward situations.

Maddee sighed, "You were just caught up in the moment and realized your wrong, I get it." she sighed a little bit. She looked at GG's new post and pursed her lips. She looked as though she was going to cry, but then she composed herself and looked at him, as she sipped her coffee. "I get it, don't worry. You really did pick the right girl." she smiled a bit at him and turned back to her Mac. She had a lot more to say, but she didn't want to risk her friendship with him. She had a plan in the back of her head, and she was going to be the winner at the end. "How's life?" she asked feeling it become a bit awkward.

Aaron nodded, not really knowing how to reply. A subtle “I know” would get him bitch slap, so a simple nod would do the trip. ”Life; it’s good, I suppose,” he said, not wanting to go in about how he’s seeing Roxi for a date or anything. He would ask her, but she would probably reply with a “you ruined it,” or some snippy comment. ”Y tu?” he asked, using a bit of Spanish. It meant “and you” in Spanish, which he took for two years, and ended up not learning much. The class was a joke, everyone knew that. Aaron looked up to the ceiling for inspiration, though a beige wall didn’t give him much.
