It was a pretty glum day in L.A. as Charlotte slung her pink handbag over her shoulder as she pushed her way through Barnes and Noble. Instantly she was calm as she smelled the fresh pressed pages of books and the leather bindings. She saw the rolling ladders and the customers huddled at the desks crouching to share the same book light. It was home.
She tossed her bag on the back desk and made her way behind the cashier. She didnt have to wear a uniform luckily because she had convinced the overall manager that she looked tacky and it was unflattering. Chance had said that he would try and see her today at work and she was excited. As she waited for a customer she pulled out Water For Elephants and set it on the keys of the cashier as she waited for customers. The scent of the pages wafted into her nose and she got the chills as her eyes scanned the beginning prologue of the page.

Chance made his way towards the Barnes & Noble that was in the mall that Charlotte worked at. He had Claire on his arm and wasn't quite sure how Charlotte would react to him having another girl with him but he shrugged it off. It was no big deal. They were starring in an upcoming movie together soon and in order to help raise publicity for the movie they went out in public together and stuff.
As him and Claire entered the store, Chance caught sight of Charlotte at the cash register. He smiled a bit and headed in her direction before stopping in front of the register on the other side of the counter where the customers stood. He put his hands on the counter and smiled at her.
"Why hello there." he greeted her, Claire coming to stand beside him. His light blue gaze shifted from Charlotte to Claire and he realized that he should probably introduce the two of them since they most likely didn't know each other.
"Charlotte this is Claire Bennett, Claire this is Charlotte Cook." he said as he gestured to each of the girls in turn, a smile still on his face as he turned back to Charlotte.

She was reading the last page of the Prologue as she felt someone standing over her on the counter. "Im sorry, books they are just so..." She spoke, setting the book down as she looked up at the customer to find Chance. She smiled happily and greeted him back. "Hey." She smiled, but that faded when she saw this gorgeous blonde on Chance's arm. Charlotte pursed her lips, probably another one of his girlfriends that he had snagged along the way. Although, she was stunning.
"Hi, it's nice to meet you and your clothes are amazing!" She complimented as she fidgeted with her handmade bracelets. "So, anything specific you want...?" She asked as she made her way around the counter to Chance. It was awkward as just the other night they were all over each other and now, it was as if there was this wall built in between them. Awkward it was as she thought that he had come to break things off because he was dating bodacious blonde, not bookworm blonde.

Claire walked into Barnes and Nobles arm in arm with Chance. She wasn't sure exactly why they were going there but Chance insisted that they did. Claire didn't mind though. Her eyes were green today. They changed often for no apparent reason. Her eyes scanned around the store. It smelt like fresh pages like a smell of a new book. It was obviously because their were about a million books inside that store. Claire smiled at Chance then at Charlotte. "Aw thanks. I love your hair. Its so beautiful. It's nice to meet you too." Claire smiled at the girl as she spoke kindly to her. Her eyes shifted back to Chance and then back to the other blonde. This is the girl everyone was buzzing about. She was beautiful and probably was a nice girl but, she didn't seem to fit into Chance's lifestyle. But, then again Claire had just met the girl.
Claire wasn't wearing anything to special today. She wore a pair of denim skinny jeans that were ripped here and there, a half sleeved shirt with navy blue and white strips, and a pair of black pumps. Claire was short without her heels. She was about 5'1 or 5'2. That was something she was insecure about but, she knew she was still flawless. Claire wasn't cocky just confident. Claire had been shooting a new movie with Chance. It was going to be in theaters in a few months. That's why they had been spending a great amount of time together. Claire's glossed lips pursed together as she waited to find out exactly why they were here. But, she had a pretty good idea.

Chance smiled when the two girls complimented each other and his light blue eyes followed Charlotte as she came around to his side of the counter before asking him what he wanted exactly. Confusion clouded his eyes and changed his expression as he glanced around as if to check and see if she was talking to him or someone else.
"Um. . . you told me you wanted me to stop by and see you today at work. . . so here I am." he explained, his eyebrows furrowed and an unsure smile on his face as he watched her.

"I know silly, but you cant leave a bookstore without a book!" She smiled as she led him over to the bookshelf to climb the ladder and get the books. She picked out three and carried them in her arm as she slowly descended down the ladder and opened the top books cover to read the title. "Charles Dickens, amazing author." She said as she handed the book to Chance. "The Game by Neil Strauss, a definite book for you to read." She smiled as she read the prologue for Chance. It was a book about picking up girls.
Then she went to the very last book and smiled as she handed it to Claire, "The Notebook, the most perfect book for any girl." She smiled as she released her grip on the book. "On the house, it will come out of my paycheck." As she dusted off her hands and wiped them on her pants.

Relief washed over Chance as she said that he had to get a book since he was in a bookstore. A smile crossed his face and he nodded as he followed her around the store as she picked up a couple books here and there before returning to the cash register and handing two to Chance and one to Claire.
"Thanks." he replied as he took the books though he felt bad that she had to pay for them but decided against trying to push her to let him pay for them. He stood still for a moment, looking at the books he had in his hands before glancing up at the two girls he was with. He wasn't sure if Charlotte wanted him to stay awhile longer or if he should leave and let her get back to work.

"Yeah sure no problem!" She smiled as she went over to the cashier as she took their books and scanned them into the machine before paying for them with her credit card. "You guys are all set, have a great day and I'll talk to you later?" She asked as she kissed her fingers before placing her fingers on Chance's hand when Claire wasnt looking.
"Great sale down the floor, gotta love those sales!" As she pointed to the store and explained to Claire the sale and what was on sale and the fabulous deals that she would be getting if she decided to go to the store and purchase some things.

Chance smiled and nodded before taking their books and heading towards the door of the store. He was looking forward to seeing Charlotte later hopefully when there were a lot less people around.
"Definitely." he replied to her question before glancing over his shoulder at her once more as him and Claire prepared to leave the store. He pulled his black aviators out of the front pocket on his shirt before putting them on his face and walking out the door behind Claire. Running a few steps to catch up with her he slung his arm around her shoulders as they headed down the sidewalk.
