Kyle had been so distracted throughout the past week, just thinking about Lily. He was still aggregated that she had just left him without an explanation; after all, he told her everything. In all though, he was more worried about her than anything, as even though he was mad, he would be horrified if anything horrendous happened to her. Sometimes Kyle wasn’t sure, but everyone once in a while he felt like he liked Lily more than a friend, but no, not right now. Not until he got her to tell the truth about what was happening with her and why she was acting different, besides the fact that her parents were deceased.
The park was soothing, and a nice break from the beach. Ever since he had come to the park a couple weeks ago he began to enjoy it more and more, and today was a day where he needed a break from the beach, and just needed to lay in the golf-course short grass. Kyle passed by the children’s play area, which included a playground and sand pit, and kept walking, zoning out as he thought about what was on his mind. He had gotten so caught up in his thoughts that he ran into a three or four year old boy. ”Shit!” he said, and then forgot about his cursing and children. ”I mean, are you okay? I’m sorry,” he said as he bent down to the kid’s level and made sure he was okay and then kept walking along because the kid had to be brave at some point or another. Everyone had to grow up, and maybe Kyle had just taught that to a three year old who hadn’t even bothered to cry.
As Kyle continued through the park, he came across his favorite place with a big fountain and benches. It was always quiet and peaceful, something he needed right now. There were a few scarce people surrounding the fountain, reading books, magazines, and just feeding the ducks. One person he noticed was a hobo eating out of a garbage can, and he couldn’t help but feel sorry for the guy, but if he gave him five bucks he would probably buy a pack of cigarettes and a lighter instead of food, so Kyle kept walking to a bench where he sat down.
Ky wore a plain t-shirt, a black cargo jacket, and a cross on his upper torso, and then jeans on his legs with converse covering his feet. It was casual, something he wore often, and it was good for the weather which was warm, but not hot. He pulled out his phone from his jacket pocket and scrolled through his texts, making sure he didn’t have any from Lily, and then put it back in his pocket. He just studied the architecture of the fountain and watched the ducks being fed as he sat there, hoping for some sort of sign to come and tell him what do to.

the past few days had been a mix of emotions for lily. she felt horrible after lying to kyle, so she had been trying to avoid him for a little while - giving him some space and all. lily had only talked to one other friend after the night she talked to kyle and ran away from him. it was noelle. noelle had been one of her best girl friends for quite a long while, and she knew noelle wouldn't freak out about her situation, and understand and try to help her. girls were like that. they understand each other, and talk in calm voices. but with kyle it was different. he knew that she was lying to his face, and it made him frustrated with her.
lily woke up that morning and put on a blue dress with a beaded belt. she curled her hair with a curling iron, and put on some simple makeup. after that she sat on her couch just staring at social networks on her macbook, seeing what all of her friends were doing. lily had no idea what to do, and she didn't want to be cooped up inside where her bad thoughts could run free in an environment that reminded her of her parents. she pondered all of the places that she could go to. she thought about going to the mall to shop at forever 21, but with her eating disorder being in such a public place full of people judging each other's outfits wouldn't be very fun.
after more thinking lily decided that she would go to the park. it was peaceful there. it could be a place where she could just sit and think to herself. but little did she know that wouldn't be how she would spend her time at the park. lily grabbed her keys from the table and went outside her apartment complex to her car. she then got into her car and began her drive to the park. the traffic was okay, it wasn't too crowded on the road. it still made her uncomfortable driving, she needed to get over it. she also needed to get over everything else, but not without help from some close people in her life. she thought by going to the park she could plan a way to tell everyone about her situation.
lily arrived at the park and found a place to park a little bit far away from the actual park. she believed that walking is the best exercise. so instead of trying to find the best spot in the lot, she chose the worst one. lily made her way to the main part of the park where people were playing with their kids, reading, flying kites, and whatever else. she was looking around for a place to sit. whenever she went to the park she would sit on the same bench, because everything around the bench was beautiful. she walked over to it and noticed someone was sitting on it. it was a male, but she was facing the bench from the back so she couldn't tell who it was exactly. "hi, do you mind if i sit here? i always sit here when i come here..i won't bother you or anything.." she asked. she watched him turn his head. it was kyle.

Kyle kept watching the fountain spit water, hearing the splash after it feel down. It was actually quite calming; especially with the drum beat he heard from far away. On the other side of the fountain there was a bright primary colored umbrella attached to a food cart, though it looked blurry, but he could still make out that it was a food stand. Slowly he got up and walked around the circular fountain to the cart which sold hotdogs. Hotdogs defiantly weren’t Kyle’s favorite, but his stomach began to roar and grumble so he decided he needed to eat something, and there weren’t many other options for eating by where he was.
As Ky approached the vender he pulled out five dollars and handed it to the cashier. ”One hotdog please and a coke, please,” he said as he waited for his change, which ended up being one twenty five. Kyle stashed the money his jean pocket and waited for his food to come while he tapped his foot on the cement ground to the beat of the fountain falling. It took a bit for the hotdog to be cooked since apparently the stand just opened, so he just peered around the park, looking at two people on the grass kissing intensely, then there was the homeless man still looking for food, and then himself. Finally the vender announced that his food was ready, and he took the warm dog wrapped in aluminum foil and his cold can of coke. ”Thanks,” Kyle said as he walked back to his seat on the bench.
Not long after Kyle sat down and took a couple of bites of his food and sips of his beverage he heard a familiar voice coming from behind him. Too familiar. He slowly turned his head just to see Lily standing there in a blue dress. ”Shit.” Kyle said as it was all he could manage since he was really in complete shock. He wasn’t really sure if he was ready to see Lily yet or not, but maybe the stars aliened in the universe to say that it was time for him to speak to her. Ky felt his stomach knot up as he looked into Lily’s eyes, causing him to turned his head and look away. He had two options right now; a) run away or b) face the music. Option “A” really wasn’t really an option because running away wouldn’t do anything but show he couldn’t confront people, so option “B” it was.
After taking a couple long breaths Kyle turned around and looked at Lily. ”What I meant by shit, was please sit,” he said, sliding over and taking a sip of his coke. He then scarped down the rest of his hotdog and chewed and sallow it down, though it didn’t agree with him. ”Lily, I care about you, and I need you to tell me the truth,” he said quietly, in a calm voice, no anger at all, just sorrow. He really wanted to help Lily with whatever was going through her head and mind.

lily was in shock when she saw kyle turn around and say the word "shit." it made her feel like she wanted to run away again. but through all of the thoughts running through her mind, she knew she had to sit down and tell kyle the truth. she couldn't keep it inside anymore. she was hurting herself, and the people she cared about - just like kyle said on the beach. telling kyle the truth was the right thing to do, but also the hardest thing to do. she was afraid that when she told people they would just leave her, instead of staying by her side through everything like she wanted them to. if she wanted them to go back to normal, being friends, or eventually more..she would have to come clean, whether the truth would hurt or not.
lily disregarded his comment about his word slip. she slowly walked around to the other side of the bench and took a seat next to kyle. she felt like she was having one of those moments when people would say "awkward" in a weird voice, making the moment truly awkward. lily just sat in silence for a few minutes while she collected her thoughts. "kyle..i truly am sorry that i ran away from you at the beach. i did lie to you, and i feel really horrible about it.." she paused. "i guess i just wasn't completely ready to tell you what is going on..and i didn't think you were ready to hear everything. i was just really emotional that day. i have been for a while..and you talking to me like the way you were that day didn't help me, or make me want to tell you." she said while looking kyle right in the eye. she felt that points got across better if you looked people right in the eye, and usually if people are lying they don't look at the person, or look to the left.
lily looked down at her wrists for a second and back up at kyle. he had a worried look on his face. "the truth is..i have been self-harming. my kitten didn't do this to me." she said pushing the bracelets off of her wrists and revealing them to kyle. the cuts were much more visible, and red than what he would have seen in the dark at the beach. "when my parents died, i felt like i had nothing left. they were my everything. when i saw them in the hospital beds i started to cry. i convinced myself that it was my fault. i told them to have a good night. i told them what restaurant they should go to. they listened to me, and now they are gone." she explained, feeling a lump growing in her throat. "i saw someone on tv do it. so i thought, why not..it's a way to deal with how you are feeling. my emotions would just build up..to a point where i didn't know what to do, and i felt that the only way was to cut myself..and the worst of it is that that isn't all i have been doing." lily stopped herself. she wanted to hear kyle's reaction before she explained that she was bulimic, and having suicidal thoughts. she didn't want to overwhelm him with too many problems at once. lily also showed him the cuts that were on the inside of her thighs. which she had cut after he had saw her wrists at the beach.

Kyle sat in silence with Lily, just studying the ground, the lines of concrete, and a few ants trying to carry a bread crumb. When Lily began to speak Kyle looked at her, making direct eye contract as he listened to her voice. He nodded when she said that his stern voice and semi-yelling at the beach didn’t help, because it probably didn’t, but it was just how he felt, and it came out when he spoke. He couldn’t take his eyes off of Lily, even when his throat was screaming for moister and some saliva and coke to rehydrate it. It was good that she was coming clean to wash away her sanity, but it was depressing for Kyle to hear. How things could change so fast, and for the worst, it just didn’t make sense. Although Kyle considered himself “manly” he couldn’t help but get a little teary eyed because Lily was so special to him, and it was hurting him hearing this.
I’m sorry for being grouchy at the beach. I just can’t see you get hurt,” Kyle said as Lily revealed the scars. There were a couple of red dashes that looked like they were irritated by the bracelets. Kyle moved his hand from his lap and tentatively traced his fingers over the cuts, feeling a little ridge from the scab. He then moved his hand back and soaked up all the information she had given him. ”I know your parents being deceased has been hard on you Lily, but it would be hard on anyone. he began, putting his hand on the small of her back, rubbing it gently and sort of awkwardly, but he was bad at comforting people. ”It wasn’t your fault that your parents were hit, not at all. It was the drunk driver, and you are not to blame. That could have happened to anyone, and you have nothing to do with it. Trust me,” Kyle said sweetly.
”Do you honestly believe it is a way to deal with feelings? There are hundreds of other ways like therapy, taking to someone, yelling into a pillow. Anything but hurting yourself,” Kyle said, still keeping a calm voice. He tilted his head when she said that wasn’t all she had been doing. What else could you have been doing that was worse than cutting herself? Not much, that’s what”What do you mean you’ve been doing other stuff?” he questioned, not raising his voice at all, just a flat, peaceful voice to show that he was here for her. Was the weather getting warmer, or was it just him? Either way he slowly slid off his jacket and tossed it beside him on the bench, not caring if it fell to the ground or not. He then placed his hands in the front pockets of his jeans and waited for Lily to continue her story.

"i know. i realized that after i left. i shouldn't have ran off like that. i need to stop running away from my problems or they will just get worse". lily looked down at kyle's hand when he touched her cuts. at that moment she had saw that she was really hurting herself, and she knew that it was affecting people around her too. "i think it has been harder on me than anyone else i know that have had their parents disappear. i lost both of them on the same day, and for a really stupid reason that could have been avoided if the driver was sober. it just sucks. i hate not being able to call them and tell them that i got to do a celebrities makeup, or tell them i got a new pet. they won't get to see me grow up, they won't get to see me get married to a guy that i love, and say speeches at my wedding, or see me have kids. when i do end up having kids they won't have any grandparents on my side." thinking about that made lily start to cry. when kyle tried to comfort her she pulled him into a hug. she would have never done that if she had not told him anything.
lily stopped hugging kyle when he started talking again. "honestly, i did believe that it was the only way. i needed an immediate release, and that was the only thing i could think of. it sounds really bad to me now, i don't know what i was thinking.." she said as she wiped under her eyes with her fingers. well..remember my stomach growling so much at the beach? and i don't know if you've noticed but i look different. i stopped eating, and when i did eat i just threw it up. i wasn't trying to be bulimic or anything. i just couldn't hold food down. i lost interest in a lot of things, and eating was one of them. i fainted outside my apartment in the hallway about a week ago, and someone who was in the hallway saw and took me to the hospital. the people there told me i fainted because of dehydration, and asked me if i had not been eating, but i lied to them. things just kept getting worse and worse." she explained to him.
the worst part of it all had not even been said yet. she wanted to leave it until last, because she didn't know how he would take it. she didn't want to scare him or anything. "there's just one more thing. i don't want you to freak out or anything." she said in a calm voice before pausing for a second. "but there were times when i thought about taking my own life. it all relates back to how i thought i was the reason they are gone. i never tried anything, it was just thoughts. i promise. i never tried to hang myself, or do anything crazy like that." lily stopped and looked down at her wrists again. she brushed her fingers over the cuts and felt some pain, but then stopped. she looked back up at kyle and stared at him for a second. "you kind of saved me. at the beach..when i got up and went over to the edge of the rock. i think if you weren't there i would have jumped off. i got to a point where i wouldn't care. i just wanted to end things..but i couldn't do it because you were there. i didn't want to. i just don't know what to do anymore. this is so hard." she said before more tears began to stream down her cheeks.

Kyle was a bit surprised that Lily had pulled him into a hug, but he didn’t argue, and he hugged her back tightly. When she released the hug he looked at her, and how her tears were black because it took off some of her makeup as it ran down her cheeks and dropped off her jaw bone. ”I’m not really that religious or anything as you know,” Kyle began as he looked at the cross he was wearing around his neck and gripped it with his hand as he spoke. ”But, I’ve been to church and all, and well, even though you’re parents aren’t, uh, here, you can still talk to them. By that I mean you can pray and just when you’re by yourself you can speak to them, tell them how you’re doing and stuff. At least I think that’s how it works…” Kyle said, scratching his head. To him he sounded like a priest, but he really wasn’t that Christian. Every once in a while he went to church, but on rare occasion, though, he learned about what he had just told Lily, so it wasn’t a waste going. ”Here, this might help,” Kyle said, lifting the cross from his neck and placing it over her head. Maybe it would be a use to her, maybe not, but either way he wanted her to have it.
Listening to more of Lily’s problems got harder then when she said that she cut herself. When she explained about being bulimic Kyle’s heart stopped. Bulimia? He had read about that when he was taking health class in eighth grade or so, and he had to read an article about some wrestler who had it. What he found out was that it was more common in guys than girls, but the article he read was about a wrestler who was bulimic (male,) and was trying to lose weight to be in a certain weight division. In the end the guy did not die, but his bladder dried out and he peed blood. Just thinking about bulimia made Kyle hungry, even though he had recently had a hotdog. Now that Lily mentioned it, she did a little bit on the thinner side. ”Lily, bulimia leads to death, the heart shutting down, and then your whole body system turning off, you know that right? Even if you aren’t feeling that hungry you still needed to eat something, even a little thing like yogurt or an apple,” Kyle explained, sounding all smart, even though he wasn’t sure how he knew all of this information. ”The hospital? Tell me it isn’t so. And the pizza I gave you? Did you throw that up?” Ky asked, so he knew the situation.
When Lily continued to the last problem and asked Kyle to not freak out, he automatically wanted to freak out. Whenever someone said that, it meant it was bad, causing him to get anxious. The last thing was defiantly the worst thing on her list. Suicide? Recently Kyle read in the paper that a girl named Samantha or something committed suicide because of cyber bullying or guys, but this was a different case. Kyle’s eyes popped out of his head just a tad, just the thought of risking someone’s own life. ”Promise me to never think of killing yourself,” he said with a quiver in his voice. The good thing was that Lily hadn’t tried to kill herself, but thoughts of suicide were still bad. Kyle really didn’t know what to say, but at least he was someone for Lily to tell. ”I-I saved you?” he asked just to clarify. He remembered Lily on the edge of the rocks, but at that point he was too concerned to do anything, so he ignored it. ”How did I save you? he asked as he saw more tears roll out of her eyes. Kyle didn’t have a tissue, but his lunch did come with a napkin which he handed to her so she could tab her tears away. ”Lily, this may be the hardest thing for me to say…but I love you. That’s right, I love you Lily Ophelia Prince, but I won’t do anything about it until you get some help and go to therapy or something. I will go with you if needed, but I had to get that off my chest,” he said, unsure of how she would respond. Kyle had loved Lily like a sister, but he actually loved her, but she desperately needed help, and that was a priority.

lily listened as kyle explained to her that he has been to church and telling her about how she could pray as a way to contact her parents. lily had only been to church when she was young, and she didn't really understand it. she went to church for about two years, but then stopped because her parents got busy. as he talked about it lily watched kyle hold onto the cross that was around his neck. "that's a good idea. i haven't been to church since i was little. i think i will talk to them at their graves though. it would feel like more of a connection maybe." lily watched as kyle took off his cross necklace and put it around her neck. "are you sure you want me to have this?" she said before smiling. "i mean, thank you. i will wear this everyday." she said looking down at it. it was perfect.
"it does..? nobody ever told me that. what do i do? i don't want my body system to turn off. i don't want to die.." she said in a worried voice. she had no idea that bulimia could lead to such a horrible ending. though her bulimia was only a couple of weeks old, it could have progressed if she hadn't told anyone about it, or plan to do something about it. "yeah..the hospital. it was scary. i was alone there. i didn't want to ask anyone to come see me..because i didn't want anyone to see me like that. you would have been the first person i called too." she explained. "umm. yes. i did throw up the pizza. in the parking lot. when i left.." she said in a quieter voice.
lily waited for kyle to respond to her last issue. he was quiet for a couple of seconds. it made lily wonder what he was thinking about at the exact moment when she told him she had thought about suicide. "kyle..i promise. i want to change. i want to be able to stop self-harming myself, and be able to eat and not throw up. i want to be my regular weight. i want to be my normal self again. i just need help. i need people to tell me to stop and think about what i am doing as soon as i do it..kind of guiding me i guess." that felt like the first step. or maybe the second step - first step telling someone, second admitting you have a problem..or something like that.
lily looked around the park for a second. everyone seemed so happy, while she was living a depressing life. there were parents playing with their kids, which reminded lily of her parents. but for once instead of making her sad, seeing them kind of made her happy. her parents taught her a lot of life lessons, lessons that lily would carry with her throughout life until she died, peacefully in her sleep. that's how she wanted to die, not in a car crash, or from a gun shot, peacefully. "you saved me just because you were present at the time. you are my best friend. i wouldn't want you to watch me die. unless we were old people and i was 110 years old. but even then i still wouldn't want you to. you better still be around when i'm 110 years old. we can have wheel chair races in the old folks home." she laughed. that was the first time she let out an actual legit laugh since before her parents died. "maybe i could stay at your apartment for a few days? i think not being alone would help..and you can watch me and i do something wrong, stop me. i don't care if i have to sleep on the couch or somethi-wait..did you just say that you loved me?" lily smiled to herself. she couldn't believe he had just said that. information.

”I think it will help, or at least try it,” Kyle said pleased with himself since he had actually given good advice. Normally he gave advice to himself that he normally didn’t follow, but Lily seemed like she was going to follow it, which made him happy that he was actually helping someone, and in a long run changing her life for the better. ”Why would I give it to you if I didn’t want you to have it?” he asked with a smile, though it was mostly rhetorical. He smiled at her, since she seemed to be better than when he saw her last at the beach. Ky pulled his hands out of his jean pockets and messed with his hair, since it kept getting ‘too’ perfect, and it needed to look a little bit more messed up and rugged.
Kyle still couldn’t get over the fact that he knew so much about bulimia, but maybe he actually liked health because all the guys always cracked jokes and made it interesting. ”Why, of course it does. All eating disorders do because you’re not feeding your system nutrients that it needs, so it eventually shuts down.” Kyle explained, making him sound smarter. ”I only know this because of health he said, letting his embellished self deflate. When Lily explained the hospital he got a bit upset, not at her, but because he hated hospitals. There were always the mint green walls, the odd smell, and absolutely nothing to do. Kyle had had foot surgery when he was younger, and he had to stay overnight in the horrid hospital room. ”I get that, I just wish I could have helped in some way to prevent you from going there,” he sighed, rubbing his handing together.
The whole suicide issue still threw Kyle off a bit, but he promised to not freak out, so he tried to remain calm. He couldn’t help but smile when she promised to try to change, and that was good enough for him Ky placed his hands on either of her shoulders and looked his square in the eye. ”I am telling you stop, and to get help,” he said straight and flat. He needed to get her professional help though, if she would agree to it that was, because many people refused to get help even when they needed the most. Though, Kyle would figure out a way to get her a therapist or mentor for Lily, not matter what it took, since she was always on his mind, so it had to be a sign.
Kyle noticed Lily looking around the park, at how lively it was getting, when they were sitting on the bench all sorrow and depressed. He still didn’t get the whole issue of how he had saved her, but if he saved her, than he must have saved her and that was not something to argue about since he liked being a hero like Hercules. ”Well as a best friend, then I accept being a semi-hero,” he smirked. ”If we’re strong enough then yes, I will race you down the hall until he die. But, in order to do this you have to stay healthy and not die before hand,” he said switching from a chuckle to a more serious voice. When she invited herself over to stay at his apartment for a few days and sleeping on the couch he couldn’t say no to helping her. ”Of course you can stay, but I’ll stay on the couch, you can have my bed,” he offered with a sweet smile. When she stopped talking and asked if he said that he loved her, Ky simply nodded before speaking. ”Yes, I said, and I will repeat, that I love you, Lily,” Kyle repeated, grabbed her hand and holding it.

all lily could do was smile at how kyle gave her his cross necklace. it was one of the nicest things anyone had done for her in a really long time. it really made her feel better, and gave her a lot of ideas on how to connect with her parents again. it also made her see that her parents can still watch over her from heaven, and that made her feel happier. "all i have to say it thank you. that was really sweet of you to give up your necklace for me." lily hugged him again, this time without the crying. it was just a happy, thank you kind of hug. lily watched as kyle ruffled his hair. she made a "what are you doing" face at him, and then she took her hands and messed up his hair even more. she didn't know why he was doing that, his hair looked fine before. guys were hard to understand.
"i always skipped health class, because i thought it was pointless. i thought i already knew everything..but i guess i was wrong, and i should have went to class. god i can be so stupid sometimes." she said, raising her voice a little louder. lily started thinking about how she could start having regular eating habits again. she contemplated going to the doctor and telling them that she needed help, or maybe she could just start eating small meals and work her way up to eating regular again. the second idea sounded like a better option, since she had a weird fear of doctors and hospitals. they just made her feel uncomfortable. there was a certain smell to doctors offices and hospitals that made her uneasy, and knowing that there were sick people there, and people dying made her feel worse about them. whenever she was at a hospital she would think about how many families there were saying goodbye to people as they float off into heaven, or wherever they would be going.
the media had a big affect on lily's bad choices. one of the main reasons she had done everything, was because she had heard about it on the internet, or on tv. she heard about a girl who had commit suicide in town, and it didn't really affect her that much. she wasn't friends with her or anything, and she didn't go to the funeral so she never saw the affect it had on everyone. she heard about cutting on tv, and the eating disorder just kind of showed up on its own. lily felt kyle's hands on her shoulders, he was looking at her square in the eyes. "i want to stop, and i do need help.." she said right back at him. that was exactly what she needed to hear.
"you aren't a semi-hero. just a hero, accept that. you are always there for me when i need you. so you are a hero." she smiled. lily was glad that she was able to smile again, and laugh, and let people hug her and touch her and not feel uncomfortable or weird. telling kyle everything was slowly making things turn normal again. "hey, we will be strong. we just need to eat lots of vegetables and work out and stuff, and i might even let you win sometimes." she laughed. "are you sure you don't want me to take the couch?" she asked, though she knew he would say he definitely wanted her to have the bed instead. she needed to get away from her apartment where she was reminded of her parents. lily couldn't take her eyes off kyle. she never wanted him to leave her. "you really do..." she said before wrapping her arms around him and whispering "i love you too" into his ear. she let go of him and smiled. information.

Seeing the cross make Lily so happy made Kyle happy. It was just a simple gift that had a lot of meaning behind it. The necklace really wasn’t important to Kyle, as he had gotten it in Mexico a while back, but now it would be passed onto someone else who needed it. ”Well I for one am happy you like it,” Ky said as Lily pulled him into a hug, where he hugged her back. When she gave him a weird look when he fixed his hair he smirked. ”It’s a guy thing,” he said, changing the Barbie commercial words to ‘it’s a guy thing’. ”It was getting too perfect,” he said, wiggling his eyebrows. It was like how Justin Bieber did the ‘hair swoosh’ that drove the ladies crazy, just instead he used his hand instead of shaking his head. ”Hey, I’m not the Beibs,” he teased when she messed with his hair. Kyle decided to leave it like how Lily had fxed it and then moved onto the next topic.
”It seemed pointless, but it wasn’t. Plus there were lots of sex jokes that I made in the class to make it more interesting,” Kyle said proudly. He was the class clown when he was growing up, and he had kept some of his immaturity, but it was mostly gone. ”You’re not stupid, you made a mistake like everyone in this crazy world,” he said, pointing to the people around in the park, especially the homeless man still digging for food out of the garbage can. ”See the hobo there, he wouldn’t be a homeless man if he stayed in school, but I can bet he was a dropout. Sure sometimes they had disabilities, but he probably dropped out. That was a mistake,” Kyle explained, trying to show that everyone made mistakes. He needed a better example that didn’t include a poor man, but he couldn’t think of any about himself. He had made too many mistakes to count, but there was only one that came to mind. ”My example was that I was not there for you when you needed me the most. Right after you’re parents…death,” he said, whispering the word death, since it was a touchy subject.
”I could be your therapist if you don’t feel comfortable seeing a real one. I mean, I can’t proscribe anything, but I’m someone to talk to. Right?” Kyle said just trying to help. He hadn’t gone to see a therapist himself, but he had seen them on T.V. where the person lays on the couch and talks about their feelings. Of course he had seen that in Looney Tunes were Bugs Bunny was on the couch talking to Elmer Fudd or something, but he got the gist of it. The cartoons were wrong he heard, as normal, and people didn’t lie down, but they sat in a comfortable chair or couch and talked about their problems. That made more sense than the Looney Tune idea.
Raising his hands in the air like a police officer had told him to do, he smiled. ”Alright, I’m your hero. I can’t deny it any longer,” he smiled before setting his hands down. Ky didn’t understand what she meant by “we” would be strong, but maybe like he was a support beam or something. ”Win at what exactly?” he asked, unsure of what she meant. Win at poker, arguments, food fights? Maybe just win in general. ”I am positive, I’ll crash on the couch, no problem,” he said with a smile. The couch wasn’t bad or anything, and Lily needed the bed more than he. ”How many times do I need to tell you that I love you?” he asked, saying it for a third time. Each time it got easier to say than the time before, which was a nice feeling. Kyle hugged her back tightly, never wanting her to leave. When she whispered in his ear and got her war breath all in it and said “I love you” back, he smiled and felt relieved that they had mutual feelings. He knew that she wasn’t just saying that either and that she actually loved him. He slowly pulled away from the hug, but still had his arms around her and was about to kiss her when he stopped. With everything going on in her life, a kiss would not help. So he just went back to give her a hug. Talk about an awkward turtle moment.

"hey, i don't even like justin bieber! he resembles a twelve-year-old girl, and looks like he wears lipstick." she said before moving on to something else. "you made jokes in health class? you rebel. i went to one or two classes, it was just weird, so i stopped going." she explained. she remembered all of the girls that would giggle whenever the teacher would talk about sex and such. "yes, but my mistake was huge. that hobo could get a job and un-hobo himself or something. it's going to take a long time for these cuts on my wrists to heal, and for my eating habits to go back to normal." she explained before listening to him talk again. he was explaining how him not being there for her was one of his mistakes, but if he tried she would have just pushed him away and tried to deal with things on her own like she did when things started spinning out of control. "ky..even if you did try to be there for me i would have pushed you away. i didn't want help. i was a people-pusher.." she stated.
"i think you need a phd to be a therapist, but you can defiantly just be someone to talk to." she responded. lily remembered that she already had a therapist. she used to go to one when she was younger after her grandpa died from cancer. she didn't really need therapy then, but maybe she could go see him now. unless he was out of business or something, but she didn't really want to see him and explain her life story to him. she was sick of explaining things to people and crying over it. she just wanted to be better, and back to normal like before when her parents were alive still.
lily laughed when kyle put his hands up in the air. she loved that he could be serious at times, but also a little random and silly. "oh sorry. i mean't i would win the wheel chair raises. i have really muscular arms, i mean look at them! she joked. lily held up one arm and flexed. her muscles weren't even big at all, she just liked joking around. "okay fine. i'll sleep in your bed, and you can have your couch." she said. "how about you say i love you fifty more times?" she joked again. it didn't matter how many times he said it, just that it meant the same thing each time he did. it was quiet after the hug had stopped. lily took another look at kyle before resting her head on his shoulder. "so...what now?" she asked. she didn't really know what to say anymore after that.

Just thinking about Justin Bieber put a smile on Kyle’s face, as Lily was spot on about the Biebs. He did look like a tween/teen girl who had a very high voice. Whenever Kyle went into a music shop there was always a big poster of him hanging somewhere on the wall, or a life size poster cut out of him, which was just sort of creepy because Kyle bet that a lot of girls bought that just to make out with a piece of cardboard who liked like Justin Bieber. ”I was a rebel, thank you for noticing,” he said, still proud of his rebellious ways that led him to get yelled at because he talked in class. Kyle couldn’t really disagree with how her mistake was larger than a hobo’s, but it was still fixable by definition. He didn’t really know how to reply to that so he just sort of sat in silence and listened to her saying how she would have pushed him away. ”…but you needed help,” he insisted, giving her a look like “you know I’m right.”
”Sounds like too much work,” Kyle said, pretending to be lazy, but that was a lie since he was not lazy at all since he woke up early everyday just to go and catch some waves at the beach. He woke up at four thirty at the earliest just to catch the best waves of the morning with a few pals most days.
Right, Kyle forgot they were still on the topic of wheelchair races since his mind had gone and explored some other topics. ”You’re a little cocky, aren’t yeah,” Ky teased as Lily showed him her bicep which resembled a twig. He couldn’t help but spare a chuckle. ”Wow, I never want to have an arm wrestle with you,” he laughed, then showed her his big muscle. He just smiled, seeing Lily happy made him happy. Kyle was happy to see she agreed to having the bed, which he would have made her take anyways, even if she insisted on taking the couch. ”I think you’re testing me,” he replied when she told him to say “I love you” fifty more times. When she asked what they should do now, he didn’t really have a good answer in store. ”I want you to be better before anything, I just had to say I loved you,” he explained, feeling her chin rest on his shoulder.

lily was still resting her head on kyle and looking up at him. she was staring straight into his eyes. it was like when she looked at him, nothing else mattered in the world. it was just lily, and kyle, no problems, no distractions, just the two of them. that was exactly how she was feeling. "ky, i'm really glad i came here..and you let me sit down. even if at first you were hesitant about letting me sit down." she started to explain. "thank you for everything. you really helped me realize that i have a problem, or many problems and that i need to fix them." she added.
lily felt something on her head. at first she thought a leaf had fallen on it, but after patting her head and feeling the wetness of it, she soon realized it was a raindrop. lily started to feel more and more rain drops. it was weird. when she arrived at the park the weather was perfect. it wasn't hot, it wasn't cold, and the sky was beautiful. it kind of goes to show you that things can change in the blink of an eye, which was kind of like lily's situation. "thank you for being there for me." she said before kissing him on the cheek. she then got up from resting her head on him and looked up at the sky, getting rain drops all over her face. "anyways, i don't want to get any more wet than i am already. i think i'll go home and pack my stuff..and the meet you at your house?" she suggested. after kyle agreed lily hugged him once again and walked off to her car to go home.
