walking aimlessly along the beach, isabella had her nose wedged into edgar allen poes poetry as her eyes scanned the worn pages intently. every word was absorbed as she used her index finger to guide herself along the lines as the font was highly small that even she couldn't see. the sand rubbing in-between her toes she continued to walk along but soon she could sense a blister.
a few paces ahead were a compilation of rocks as she climbed atop of one and unhitched her gladiator sandals as she banged them together to get all the sand out before dropping them below her next to the rock.
reaching for her book she went back to her last place as she finished another poem, making her way to the next. a slight breeze was blowing as she adjusted her white dress that seemed to be blowing everywhere from the breeze. her brown black hair had been tucked to one side as it was blowing in her eyes which prevented her from her readings. edgar allen poe, a man of many talents.

The sun was shining bright today, but the summer breeze kept him and his loyal companion Bailey cool as the jogged quickly along the shore of the beach. Bailey, of course, was his gorgeous golden retriever, who loved nothing more than when Dallas flaunted her in front off all the beach-clad citizens of Los Angeles. He'd packed up a few of there essentials for today in small hiking bag that was strapped securely to his back. He had two water bottles, a small dog bowl, a black and gold Frisbee so the pouch wouldn't get bored and start chasing him, and of course, his latest in a long strand of murder mystery short stories, his Best of Edgar Allen Poe book.
The book was beautiful, to say the least. It was bound in a deep scarlet leather, with gold borders and writing. His grandfather had given it to him, because it only included Poe's best works- The Tell Tale Heart, The Pit And The Pendulum, The Purloined Note, and many other classics. He'd really been using Poe's work to help himself write better, to give his characters more emotion.
Dallas decided he and Bailey needed a break, so he settled himself on a huge boulder, surrounded by other rocks. At first, he didn't notice her. He was dumping the contents of his bag onto the rock next to him, and pouring some water in his dog's bowl, when he finally noticed her.
She was quite pretty really, with her dark hair and that look of deep concentration in her eyes. But what instantly sold him was the book in her hands. If he wasn't mistake...she too, was reading Edgar Allen Poe, here on the beach. He thought that wasn't possible for a second, because she really WAS pretty. Most girls that looked like her, well, lets just say they had better things to do then read.
Walking over to her, with his Bailey wagging his tail and tagging along, he stopped in front of the rock she was sitting on "I hate to be noisy, but...I couldn't help but notice your book. You really like his work?" Dallas asked, a little hesitantly. He normally wasn't so brave as to spark up a conversation with a total stranger, but he figured, what's he got to lose?

as she was reading she heard a deep male voice and this jingling noise. using her thumb to mark her spot she looked up to see a male and his friend, a retriever. the male had asked if she shared a friendly common liking for edgar poe and she nodded. "yes, im a huge fan. right now im actually reading the valley of unrest." peeking into the book for the title.
her eyes landed on the dog as she made kissing noises and patted her legs. "and who is this beauty?" she asked as she ruffled the dogs head and behind the ears looking at the collar tag. bailey... how cute. "and you; do you take a fancy to poe?" she asked as she scratched the dog under the chin. it's fur was soft and sleek and shiny too under the light.
"bella by the way..." she said as she outstretched a hand to him.

Dallas smiled, a truly warm and friendly smile. Most girls thought dogs were sloppy if they were more than 10 inches tall and 6 pounds, but this girl didn't seem to mind Bailey at all. He took the girls hand and shook it softly, glancing at his dogs tail wagging happily at the attention.
"I'm Dallas, nice to meet you. And for the record, Bailey here seems pretty happy to meet you too. I think he gets bored of me and needs the attention only a girl can give." Dallas smiled shyly, not realizing what he said. He always tended to blurt out the first thing he thought, no matter how stupid it sounded.
Changing the subject quickly, he moved onto Poe. "Funny thing, really, I'm reading a compilation of his short stories right now. Mostly his mystery plots, like The Mystery of Marie Roget, but I can dig his poetry too. I even brought my book with me." He grabbed the book sitting on the rock he'd been at only moments ago.
The cover was a little torn, but he still truly loved the book. It was a very old print, that his grandfather had gotten when he was only a child and had since passed down to Dallas. Though he'd just met her a second ago, she seemed the type of girl to appreciate good literature no matter the condition of the cover.

"nice to meet you dallas. and nice to meet you too handsome." she smiled as she scratched the dog on his snout before returning her attention back to dallas. "I have a weakness for dogs." she said as she closed her book to look at his as he said that he too enjoyed reading poe and she was highly interested in his ways of thinking as she learned the many people who read the same type of literature thought the same way. she watched him pull out his book, a torn and weather torn book but all the more, an original classic of poe.
"wow, you have an original copy of his compilations? that is so cool!" she said as she scooted closer to him. "does it even have his authors notes? I must say my favorite book by him that is of the mystery genre is murders in the rue morgue." she asked as she reached down to pet bailey who was kindly sitting at her feet while she chatted with dallas. isabella was a very analytical person and she noticed the certain way dallas moved. the way he talked about literature she could tell that he too had a serious passion for reading like she did. "I actually saw the montblanc pen that poe used to write some of his stories with." bella smiled as she reached out to touch the book. it was leather bound and the pages had the golden trimming on the edges. "its gorgeous. is it an heir loom?" she asked him as she transferred her brown eyes from the book to dallas' face.

Dallas squatted down near Bailey, petting the dogs long, golden locks while he observed Bella. There was nothing that melted him more than when a girl said she had a soft spot for dogs. You can tell a lot about a person by how the react to animals, and he could tell she was a gently person by the way she softly patted Bailey's head.
"It is a family heirloom. When my grandfather was a little younger than me, he searched and searched until he found an originally copy. He gave it to me a few years ago before he passed away." Dallas explained, smiling as the sun beat down on the three of them. "I'm jealous though, I can't say that I've every seen any of Poe's montblanc pens. But, back at my apartment I've got a few journal entries he kept, that were tucked away in the bindings of this book actually. His thought and writing process was so unique, don't you think?
He really did love this. It was rare enough to find a girl who liked to read, let alone someone who enjoyed the same literature that he did. Most girls in Los Angeles did one of two things, either they partied every day an d night, or they surfed. Dallas wasn't a huge fan of either activity.
"By the way, you said your name is Bella. Is that short for Isabella, by any chance?" Dallas wondered. He himself was Italian, and the name, mixed with her complexion, made it seem like she could easily be Italian too.

”original journal writings by him, I would die to see that!” she smiled as she hopped off of the rock. ”okay your dog must have superior being powers because right now, I want to kidnap your dog and take it home with me.” reaching down to his backpack she pulled out the frisbee. ”may I?” she asked as she walked a few paces further out before calling bailey and tossing the disc into the air as bailey jumped up and caught it with elegance and ease before running back to her and dropping the frisbee. ”aren’t you trained?” she joked as she let bailey lick her cheek; picking up the drool covered frisbee as she tossed it in the opposite direction not wanting to toss it in the ocean because maybe dallas didn’t enjoy the smell of wet dog.
his next question was odd but she didn’t think it was odd to the point of where she couldn’t answer it. it would be rude to leave a question hanging in the air. turning her attention to dallas she smiled and nodded. ”yeah, it is actually, isabella daniella. highly italian.” she joked as she ran her fingers through her chocolate colored wavy hair as it relaxed past her shoulders. ”i go by bella though, I somewhat like it better… this age at least.” she teased as she continuously tossed the frisbee for bailey before sitting criss cross legged in the sand as she saw bailey come darting towards her. bailey nearly knocked her over with his weight as he licked her face with his big, floppy, pink tongue. ”you little…” as she scratched baileys stomach until he laid down on his side as she massaged and scratched his belly. ”he is so well behaved.” she said to dallas.

"Thank you. He's only four years old, but for his age he's a good boy. I could tell you must be Italian, I am to...can you tell by the big nose?" Dallas laughed, pointing at his face. His nose wasn't so big that it looked awkward on his face or anything, but if you looked close enough it was easy to tell that his nose was a little large. Bailey seemed to be enjoying the belly scratching he was getting now, the little attention hog. Stealing all his thunder by being the cute, irresistible one. "My full name is Dallas Mark De' Luca, can't get much more Italian then that" he added.
He hadn't noticed before, but her eyes were beautiful. They seemed to be a chocolate color, but then...they almost looked gold in the direct sun. It must have just been the light in his eyes, but she appeared to have a gold summer glow surrounding her skin, which looked like it might feel of silk were he to reach out and touch it. Not that he would ever be so hasty as to make a move so bold.
Grabbing his water bottle, he took a big gulp for himself and splashed a little more in the bowl for Bailey. Dallas had known today would be the perfect day to go to the beach.

"you wanna talk about big noses, then look at mine!" she said as she scrunched her nose up and looked at his too. "de' luca yeah, thats basically having the word 'italian' stamped on your forehead with a name like that, but I like your name. isabella daniella costa... it seems we are as italian as they get." she teased as she stood up from the sand and brushed off her white dress. it was beginning to get cold and the sun was beginning to set over the waves. it had been almost two hours since meeting eachother.
time surely flew past when you had the perfect concoction of literature and dogs to pass the time. isabella walked back over to the rock and grabbed her copy of her book. "well dallas, it was really nice to meet you and I look forward to running into you again." she said as she outstretched her hand to him before tucking the book under her arm so she could barely use her other hand to scratch baileys head.

Dallas stood up as Bella gathered her things. He didn't think her nose was big, it seemed perfectly fit to her face. "It was nice to meet you, Bella. I don't want to leave and run the risk of not running into you for a while, but I also don't want to be creepy and ask for your phone number. Maybe, if you live close by, you'd be interested in joining me for coffee sometime? There a Starbucks at 138 South Central Avenue that's pretty close to my place."
He hoped he wasn't being pushy, he really didn't want to jump the gun or anything. He just like to talk with her, it was...refreshing to meet someone with the same interests as him. Bailey savored his last few seconds of female attention...today he'd seemed to pay more attention to Bella then to himself. Usually he was attached to Dallas like glue, but maybe it was a good sign the dog took to her so well.

as isabella gathered her stuff she stopped when he asked her if she would look at meeting him for some coffee at starbucks. "coffee is my addiction, and yes I would like that. tonight? there is going to be some type of book reading of a new coming author... how about tonight around sevenish? so that is in..." she looked at her phone. "exactly two hours. plenty of time for me to change and wash this sand off of me." as she brushed the irritating sand off of her legs.
"it was nice to meet you dallas. I will see you later." as she waved goodbye and blew a kiss to bailey as she headed off in the other direction as she grabbed her book and sandals before leaving imprints in the sand as she left the beach and climbed into her car heading home before getting ready for the evening in a laid back outfit.

"It was nice to meet you, and I'll see you in just a few hours." Dallas smiled and gave her a wave as she head off to her car. "Bailey, come here!" He called to his dog, who immediately ran and plopped down by his side. "You ready for the run back?" he asked. The golden retriever replied by licking his face happily.
After packing the few things he brought with him back into his hiking bag, he swung it over his shoulders and strapped it securely to his back. He stayed there for a minute, taking in the sun and the sand, glancing at Bella's footprints in the sand. He couldn't help but think that maybe there was a reason for their random meeting on the beach today.
"Let's go, pup." Dallas commanded, and began to ran in the direction of home, The dog followed closely by his side, while he thought of a nice, hot shower. He'd need it to get rid of all this sand, sweat, and dog slobber.

Going casual for the event she changed into a pair of dark wash jeans paired with a black floral print top, the flowers bright as she wore a denim shirt unbuttoned thrown over with a pair of sneakers. Her hair was still a bit damp as she ruffled through it with her fingers, after applying some scrunch spray to give it some waves. Dallas had kindly invited her to Starbucks for a cup of coffee and she couldn’t refuse when coffee was put into the sentence. Luckily though, there had been a special reading tonight of a new author and she looked forward to hearing some chapters and poetry from aspiring authors and poets. It was nice to hear fresh new literature.
Her blue purse on the crook of her arm she used her left shoulder to push open the door as she removed her sunglasses from her eyes. It was hot outside and the sun was casting one of those blaring glares right before it set and with her sensitive eyes she wore a pair of Ray Bans. Inside Starbucks it was pretty deserted but she didn’t mind one bit, she actually liked the fact that it was pretty empty for now. Usually, over the hours the place would be packed and they wouldn’t be able to hear each other even though they were only a foot away at the small tables. She ordered some French vanilla coffee, extra hot as she asked for some whipped cream on top which she liked to play with; with her straw when she was bored or lost deep in thought.
She was glad she had met Dallas, meeting someone new was always nice for Isabella considering she only had a few close friends, Olivia, Callie and Noelle along with Ryden if she counted him as a serious friend. Meeting Dallas here was a nice way to make friends. Her and Dallas really seemed to hit it off right away which was nice. She looked forward tonight, he wasn’t horrible looking either. That surely boosted her excitement.[/font]

Dallas felt refreshed after the nice, long shower he'd taken. Not wanting to overdress, he threw on a red flannel and a pair of dark wash jeans. Opting to not do a thing with his hair, he grabbed one of his green and black marbled composition notebooks and his white gold Tibaldi fountain pen and slid them into a thin, mesh back that wrapped around both shoulders, but looked nothing like a back pack. Stopping only to pat Bailey on the head and make sure he had food and water, he headed out the door. Once he got to the street, he took a long and deep inhale, he loved being outside. Walking casually to Starbucks, which was only a few store fronts down from his studio apartment, he observed the people hastily running the errands of their lives. Everyone looked so busy all the time, didn't they know how to stop and enjoy a beautiful setting sun? He strode into the shop only a moment later and took a moment to look around. Spotting Bella standing at the counter waiting for her drink, he walked up to her calmly even though he was a tad nervous. He didn't know why, he had no reason to be. "Venti coffee with a shot of hazelnut and espresso." Dallas called to one of his co-workers behind the counter. Turning to Bella he said "Well hell there, it's nice to see you again." Dallas had a big smile on his face, as he really was happy to see this girl again. She would make the perfect company to sit and enjoy some new literature readings on this lovely summer's eve.

Bella saw Dallas arrive into the coffee store. "Hey there, I cant talk much though because my parents always taught me not to talk to strangers." She joked as she recieved her coffee, slipping a recycled hand protector over the cup as to not burn herself. "I brought some great poetry for us to analyze. I really needed some fresh new eyes to help me see a different point of view." She said as she walked over to a two-seated table so she could put her cup of coffee down.
At the stage there was a young girl reciting some of her poetry. "I just came across it the other night and I am surprised I have not ready it before. I think I understand the meaning but I cant be too sure, mind helping me?" As she slid into the seat and reached into her bag to pull out a regular pen, pencil, eraser, some highlighters and a copy of the poem she had found that was kept secure in a laminated binding. "Ah, here we are. The Phoenix and the Turtle."
